Health & Safety Consultancy

Our Safety Consultancy services complement our Human Factors offering to provide an integrated risk management approach.

  • Health & Safety Management Systems (HSG65 / ISO 45001) - We build and maintain safety management systems aligned to the HSG65 framework and, where required, ISO 45001. This covers policy, planning, implementation, measurement, and review — the full cycle, not just the paperwork.
  • Risk Assessments & Safe Systems of Work - Suitable and sufficient risk assessments for your specific workplace under Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. General workplace, COSHH, fire, DSEAR, manual handling, and display screen equipment where applicable.
  • Policy and Procedure Development - Written H&S policies specific to your business — not pulled from a template. Includes the main H&S Policy, sub-policies, method statements, and operational procedures, reviewed and updated as your business changes.
  • Workplace Safety Inspections and Audits - Regular inspections carried out to a similar standard as an HSE enforcement visit. Written inspection reports with categorised findings and a prioritised action plan. Annual audits of the whole safety management system where required.
  • Accident & Incident Investigation - Independent investigation of workplace incidents. Root cause analysis using human factors methodology, not just immediate cause identification. Written reports suitable for internal review, insurer requirements, or regulatory submission.
  • Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness - Fire risk assessments under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Emergency plan development and review. Liaison with fire risk assessors and local fire authority where required.
  • CDM (Construction Design and Management) Compliance - Principal Designer and Principal Contractor support under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. Pre-Construction Information, Construction Phase Plans, Health and Safety Files.
  • COSHH and Hazardous Substance Management - COSHH assessments under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 for all relevant substances used in your workplace. Substance inventories, exposure monitoring recommendations, and control measure review.

We ensure compliance with UK legislation while promoting proactive safety leadership and continuous improvement.

Who this service is for

  1. UK SMBs crossing the legal thresholdIf your business employs five or more people, UK law requires you to appoint a competent person to manage health and safety under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Most small businesses don't need a full-time hire. A Chartered advisor on retainer meets the legal duty at a fraction of the cost.
  2. Mid-market operators tightening upYou have existing H&S processes but they've drifted. An HSE visit, a failed PQQ, or a near miss has made it clear the current setup isn't holding. We audit, rebuild, and maintain.
  3. Businesses tendering for contractsPublic sector, construction, healthcare, and energy procurement routinely ask for evidence of H&S competence — written policies, risk assessment methodology, competent person appointment, accreditation status. Without the right documentation, bids fail before the commercial conversation starts.
  4. Higher-hazard operations needing specialist inputOil and gas, chemical, water utilities, and process manufacturing where generic compliance advice isn't sufficient. Our human factors credentials (HPOG, IOGP 454, CIEHF) mean we bring specialist methodology that commodity H&S consultancies can't.

What the law requires

The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 places a duty on every UK employer to provide, as far as is reasonably practicable, a safe workplace, safe systems of work, and adequate welfare facilities. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 build on this with specific duties: risk assessment, competent person appointment, health surveillance, and emergency procedures.

These obligations apply regardless of business size, sector, or risk level. There is no exemption for small businesses. The HSE's conviction rate in prosecutions is 96%. For businesses that end up in court, the outcome is almost always a fine, and since 2016 those fines are unlimited in the Crown Court.

Nancheez meets the Regulation 7 competent person duty for every retained client. The documentation, methodology, and advisory support provided are aligned with what HSE inspectors expect to find.

How we work

  1. 30-minute gap analysisEvery engagement starts here. We review your current H&S arrangements, identify the gaps against UK law and HSE guidance, and give you an honest steer on what needs to change. No sales pressure. Some businesses need a full retained arrangement. Others need less. We'll say so either way.
  2. Retained monthly supportA named Chartered advisor on call for any H&S question. Ongoing review of documentation, RIDDOR reporting support, regulatory updates, and scheduled inspections. Monthly fee, 30-day notice, no long-term contracts.
  3. Project-based workWhere a retained arrangement isn't required, we deliver specific projects: a management system build, an audit, an incident investigation, CDM Principal Designer services. Scoped and priced per project.
